Allow me to introduce myself: My name is Kevin Hogan and I am the new editorial director of AV Technology magazine and AVTechnologyOnline.com. I have been reporting, writing, and editing stories about the role of technology in business since 1992—back when articles with headline like, “Will e-mail work in corporate America?” were the norm. It’s been a long, strange, and wonderful trip from green screens to telepresence and I’m excited to now cover what is certainly one of the most exciting and cutting edge industries out there (and maybe now justify a flat screen for the office?).
I’d also like to introduce Margot Douaihy as the new managing editor for the publication and Web site. Margot has been covering the AV industry for 10 years as a Contributing Editor to Residential Systems, a sister publication of AV Technology, as well as a writer for HD Living and Installation Europe. Together, she and I and the rest of the AV Technology’s contributing editors are looking forward to delivering the best content of AV/IT to your mailbox, inbox, and browser.
Before you get nervous, I’d like to run down a few of the things we won’t be changing about AV Technology. Expect to see the same quality information you have always received: the latest and greatest news and product announcements, insightful analysis from our columnists and experts, as well as succinct coverage of the most important and interesting installs around the planet. The difference now will be the more pivotal role that our site, AVTechnologyonline.com, will play in that process: look for those product announcements the same day they are released from the manufacturer; get more in-depth technical specification details than just what we can squeeze onto print pages; take video tours of recent installs while listening to the managers themselves describe setups. On pages four through six you can read the details of our new online initiatives including our new assembly of advisors/bloggers who will be posting on a daily basis as well as pointers to AV Technology social media sites on Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn. We hope you will come join in the conversation. In the meantime please, drop me a line at khogan@nbmedia.com with any questions or comments. I look forward to hearing from you.
